I was riding a bus this evening going homebound to Bukidnon. Even though it’s one of those air conditioned buses still tiny droplets of rain made its way to the inside. So there I was, alone and sort of wet, anyways as I was looking outside I could hardly see the rice fields near the highway. Taking a closer look, the grassland was actually soaked from the heavy rain. Then Tom Jones’ hit “green green grass of home” suddenly came into scene. It’s one of those weary moments you see in movies when monsters start killing people while playing a happy tune in the background.
It’s a weird feeling and I can’t do a thing. If were conscious enough we could really say that the outburst on environmental pollution is finally taking its toll on our surrounding and to the people. What seems to be a picture of solitude and warmth is now drenched and gone.
And who’s to blame from all the mischief going on? –it’s us. In one way or another we have contributed to the squalor of our planet. Enough being Mr. goody goody, let’s face the fact that sometimes we cant hardly take a minute listening to resource persons from DA or those from DENR. We act as if we are concern of global warming. It’s expected that after watching the “An inconvenient truth” and the “Day after Tomorrow” a certain degree of change would take place on the earth. But it seems more people are eager to feel the agony behind the earth’s warming than resolving the issue.
There are a lot of environmentalists out there trying to impose change on the planet. Fixated on the act of spreading the news on the aftermath of pollution and environmental degradation but in the end they all lost hope because People just doesn’t get it.
The environment is a gift, a precious endowment from the almighty. But as the years went by we forgot how to weight things between the environmental preservation and technological advancement.
It’s a nice thing to see buildings and infrastructures coming out enabling us to see what the future beholds but let’s not forget the beauty there is in nature and simple living.
I think somehow or other we have been educated on proper waste disposal and the likes. However we don’t take the necessary steps in doing so thus leading to shocking waste build up and green degradation.
I hope that the children of tomorrow can still experience what life like in the grasslands and in wide fields, that they’d be not surrounded with enormous junk but with bountiful pasture.
“Yes, they'll all come to meet me, Arms reaching, smiling sweetly
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.”
